Coaching & Mentorship

I’ll help you take what you’re
doing to the next level.

I work with photographers and creatives to address a number of barriers that’s preventing them taking their work to where they’d like it to be. Working together, we tackle everything from the technical through to storytelling, culling and editing, production and process, briefing, working with brands and marketing.

My approach

I have an open, honest and collaborative approach and I’ll work with you to discover the best ways you learn and identify what’s stopping you moving forward. We’ll agree some goals, then a plan to make changes - I’ll be there to hold you accountable to what we agree and I’ll signpost you to good, reliable sources if we’re ever both stuck on something.

“Alex was super friendly and very easy to chat to, he gave me lots of feedback and advice which meant I was able to come away feeling motivated and inspired.”

Technical

Whether you’re at the start of your journey or at an advanced stage, we can work together to move your skills forward. We’ll discover new ways of doing things, push your comfort zone and identify areas you want to develop.

Storytelling

Anyone can take a photo, but together we’ll help you include and reinforce narratives in your work. We’ll work to enhance your projects, get the right subjects, concepts and composition and have your work make statements.

Brand & Production

I’ll help you put a process in place to help you produce shoots professionally and make them work commercially. I can help with branding and marketing too, providing consultancy around how to move into new areas and build on your current work.

We will chat through whatever challenges you’re facing. Either ad-hoc or part of a series, sessions are a great way to start moving forward, build out ideas and projects and have some accountability around what you’re setting out to do. Held by Zoom, Skype or WhatsApp - or in-person if you’re in Ipswich and surrounding areas.

FAQs

What level should I be?

I can help you whether you’re at the very beginning of your journey or you’re an experienced, professional photographer. Often, sessions are less about technical knowledge and about working through barriers that are preventing you from advancing.

Do you offer tutoring?

Yes - we can work together to put together a series of sessions that’s right for you. I can tutor people with no previous knowledge right up to experienced artists.

What can I expect?

I have a conversational style and we’ll get to know one another and where you want to take your work. If we’re working together over a series of sessions, we’ll work together on building a plan and goals, along with any projects you want to start building-out.

What do I need to get started?

You’ll need a camera with a fully manual mode - model, lens and age doesn’t matter. If you only shoot on a compact, bridge or phone, don’t worry, I can help. If you’re having virtual sessions you’ll need Zoom, Skype or WhatsApp for us to video call.

Do you offer crits?

Yes - work can be sent to me ahead of our session for crit and group crits can be organised should you need them. I generally try to include my own work in crits so I’ll send you pieces in return so we can discuss together. I’m also happy to follow-up with a written summary.

Do you offer discounts?

I offer a discount for block bookings and for people in full-time education.
